Wilmington Wellness Classroom
Kids Lessons
Our children’s programming provides engaging, age-appropriate health education that gives underserved youth the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills to make healthy choices. Through our work with the Horizons program, we serve children from communities throughout Wilmington, including students from East Side Charter School, Shortlidge School, and many other schools across the city. Children ages 6–11 take part in the program through classroom sessions organized by age group, allowing us to tailor each lesson to the students we are working with. Most lessons are designed as 40-minute educational sessions, while select topics are offered as 2-hour hands-on experiences. Across the year, then, with these different styles, students engage with a carefully designed curriculum featuring more than 20 health and wellness topics that bring together interactive activities, real-world examples, and meaningful discussions. Below you can explore the topics and resources to learn more about the lessons we bring into the classroom.

As mentioned above, we offer two types of sessions: our 40-minute lessons and our more immersive, two-hour hands-on experiences.
The 40-minute lesson includes approximately 20 minutes of focused instruction, followed by a 15-minute age-appropriate activity that allows students to apply what they have learned. The session concludes with a five-minute Q&A where students can ask questions, share their experiences, and gain additional insight.
Our two-hour lessons provide a deeper, more interactive learning experience. Students begin with 30 minutes of detailed instruction, including videos, demonstrations, and real-world applications, followed by a full hour of hands-on practice with individualized guidance. The session concludes with a group discussion exploring key takeaways and real-life scenarios, followed by a final Q&A.
